Maximizing USB 3.0 Performance

To get all of the features of USB 3.0, you must connect a USB 3.0 device to a USB 3.0 host controller. You can use a USB 3.0 device on a USB 2.0 host connection, but performance will be limited to USB 2.0 rates and without the new features of USB 3.0. Similarly, you can use a USB 2.0 device on a USB 3.0 host connection, but it will not be able to perform at USB 3.0 speeds.

Until computers with USB 3.0 host connections are readily available, you will need to install a USB 3.0 PCI Express or laptop adapter cardto provide a USB 3.0 interface.

NOTE: Currently USB 3.0 drivers are not available for Mac OS X. USB 3.0 devices currently can only connect to Mac systems through the currently built-in USB 2.0 ports with USB 2.0 performance rates and features.
